Furano and this central valley is known as the fruit and vegetable heart of Hokkaido. If you're a foodie like us here at 縁EN, you'll find there is no shortage of good local produce and dining options to enjoy. And this is another big reason why we love Furano and the area. From local fruits and vegetables like melons, strawberries, asparagus and onions, to local Furano wagyu and pork, to rich and delicious dairy products like milk, ice creams, fresh cream cakes and butter.

Local produce
Farming season starts from late winter with seeding in greenhouse tunnels and finishes by mid autumn. There is plenty of local produce to taste from spring to autumn:
- Spring - asparagus
- Summer - wheat, tomatoes, corn, melons and watermelon
- Autumn - tomatoes, onions, carrots, rice and potatoes

Locally grown locally made
With the many dairy farms in the area, Furano and Biei milk are famous for their rich and delicious flavour. And with good milk to hand, there are many delectable ice-cream and cake shops to choose from.
Furano and the areas wheat are planted in autumn, grow and sit under the winter's snow, is then harvested in summer. This makes the wheat rich in flavour and in turn makes delicious bakery items such as bread and croissants. Which is why we're also spoilt for choice when it comes to bakeries.
Furano's renowned melons
The Furano area are also growers of grapes, barley and hops. As well as other fruits such as strawberries, haskap and other berries.
Which is why our locally made jams, wine and beers are definitely worth a try and to take home as souvenirs.
